What is adopt-a-mile?
The Adopt-A-Mile Program provides an opportunity for groups take an active role in keeping Blount County clean. Groups (or individuals) of any kind are welcome to adopt a City of Alcoa, or City of Maryville, or Blount County road and commit to keeping it clean through regular litter pickups.
Who Can Participate?
Businesses, families, neighborhoods, civic clubs, churches, sports teams, student groups, community organizations, individuals, anyone!
Participants under the age of 18 must have parental permission and must have adult supervision during the cleanup.
Requirements & Agreements
The Adopter agrees to:
Adopt a one-mile section of city or county road for a period of two (2) years. The adoption can be renewed.
Pick up litter along the adopted road four (4) times per year
Obtain necessary equipment through Keep Blount Beautiful and return in a timely manner
Assure all participants sign a liability waiver and abide by all safety guidelines. Keep Blount Beautiful must have waivers on file for all participants before the first litter pickup.
Report the litter pickup to Keep Blount Beautiful using the Adopt-A-Mile report form. NEW- volunteers are required to weigh the trash they collect with a scale provided by Keep Blount Beautiful and report the weight on the report form.
Keep Blount Beautiful agrees to:
Provide trash bags, safety vests, gloves, litter pickers, and road signs (upon request, if available)
Provide safety information and documentation. Keep Blount Beautiful requires that all Adopt-A-Mile volunteers fill out and sign our liability waiver. Volunteers only need to fill out the waiver once during their adoption.
City of Alcoa, City of Maryville, and Blount County
Assist with waste disposal if needed
Create and post road signs at the start and end of the adopted stretch (signs will be requested after two completed cleanups within 6 months)
