How We Keep Blount Beautiful

Adopt-A-Mile

The Adopt-A-Mile Program provides an opportunity for groups take an active role in keeping Blount County clean. Groups (or individuals) of any kind are welcome to adopt a City of Alcoa, or City of Maryville, or Blount County road and commit to keeping it clean through regular litter pickups.

Litter Pickups

The Litter Pickup Support Program advocates for a cleaner Blount County by encouraging residents to help eliminate litter in their communities. Volunteers can join organized litter pickup events or schedule their own cleanups with free supplies provided, including pickers, gloves, vests, and bags.

Education Programs

Education Programs provide free environmental learning opportunities throughout Blount County for schools, homeschool groups, scout troops, clubs, camps, and other local organizations. Offerings include engaging classroom lessons, field trips, at-home activities, and adult education sessions, all designed to inspire environmental stewardship and awareness.

Glass Waste Diversion Program

Glass doesn’t break down in landfills, but through our Glass Waste Diversion Program, it can become a useful resource. This initiative collects glass from participating businesses and delivers it to the Blount County Recycling Center, where it’s pulverized and reused as aggregate.

The Kids Keep Blount Beautiful

This program helps local students connect with nature and take ownership of their environment by planting native plants at their schools. It’s a fun and meaningful way to beautify school campuses, promote outdoor learning, and build community pride.

Blount Event Recycling

Through the Blount Event Recycling program, residents can provide recycling at their private or community events such as sporting events and other community gatherings.

Cigarette Litter Prevention Program

We’re tackling cigarette litter head-on by installing receptacles in key locations and offering free portable ashtrays to residents. Collected cigarette waste is recycled through TerraCycle, turning harmful litter into reusable materials.

Terracycle Free Recycling Programs

TerraCycle goes beyond the standard recycling materials and accepts even complex waste for recycling such as toothpaste tubes and hair dryers. Their mission is to keep trash out of landfills and hopefully minimize the amount of new resources being taken while there are so many we can reuse!

Community Recycling Bins

Our Community Recycling Bin program makes it easy for small businesses, schools, and community organizations to collect and manage recyclables responsibly.
