Aluminum Can Recovery Program
Aluminum can be infinitely recycled without losing its original quality. This initiative collects used aluminum cans from various communities in Blount County and delivers them to the Blount County Recycling Center where they are stored to be sent to local processors and sold to local manufacturers.
How the
Program Works
The Aluminum Can Recovery Program is expected to launch on August 10th, 2026.
Keep Blount Beautiful’s Aluminum Can Recovery Program was created to recover aluminum can waste by providing drop-off points at public schools in communities throughout Blount County. The program aims to increase community engagement in recycling, divert waste from the Blount County Landfill, recover materials that contribute to a closed-loop recycling system, and advocate for a circular economy by supporting local manufacturing’s use of aluminum cans in their operations.
According to the The Aluminum Association, aluminum recycling uses 95% less energy than making the metal from new materials.
The school that collects the most cans wins a cash reward! The Aluminum Can Recovery Program features a friendly competition between the four participating schools. Make sure to dispose of your used cans in the collection trailer stationed at the school in your community and the winning school will win a cash reward at the end of the school year!

How can residents participate?
Residents can dispose of their used aluminum cans in the collection trailer at the school most convenient for them. Only aluminum cans are accepted and cans should not be bagged. Collection trailers are stationed in the following Blount County School parking lots 24/7 unless otherwise noted:
Walland Elementary School, 247 E. Millers Cove Rd. Walland
Friendsville Elementary School, 210 E. 4th St. Friendsville
Available until 7 PM
Carpenters Middle School, 920 Huffstetler Rd. Maryville
Located in the football field parking lot
Samuel Everett School of Innovation, 1500 Jett Rd. Maryville
