What is Adopt-A-Mile?

Keep Blount Beautiful’s Adopt-A-Mile program is a litter eradication initiative that has been a direct and impactful way for Blount County citizens to beautify their community since its inception. The Adopt-A-Mile program allows volunteer groups to adopt a section of City of Alcoa, City of Maryville, or Blount County road to keep free of litter by organizing litter cleanup events..

Who can join?

The Adopt-A-Mile program is open to businesses, families, neighborhoods, civic clubs, churches, sports teams, student groups, community organizations, and individuals. Anyone is welcome to participate! If individuals in an interested party are under the age of 18, KBB requires them to have parental permission as well as adult supervision during cleanups.

What are my responsibilities as an Adopt-A-Mile volunteer?

The Adopt-A-Mile program requires participants to perform litter cleanups on their adopted mile at least three times per year, hold the adoption for at least two years (the adoption can be renewed if desired), and report their cleanup results to Keep Blount Beautiful.

Keep Blount Beautiful will provide all litter cleanup supplies including trash bags, safety vests, gloves, and litter pickers. Assistance with trash pickup is available if needed.

How do I join?

To learn more and join the Adopt-A-Mile program, visit the Adopt-A-Mile webpage at KeepBlountBeautiful.org, click on the Apply button, and fill out the form to apply. The application will ask for your group name, contact information, and the road you wish to adopt. Once an application is submitted, Keep Blount Beautiful will reach out with important information including a volunteer waiver and answer any questions you may have.

Why would Adopt-A-Mile be a good fit for my group/organization?

The Adopt-A-Mile program is the perfect opportunity for groups who need to acquire volunteer hours consistently; businesses, clubs, or organizations that want a regular service project for their employees or members; or family, friends, or neighbors who want an opportunity to spend time together while bettering their community. The Adopt-A-Mile program is flexible and can be completed on the volunteer’s own time. We hope you join this simple yet impactful way to take care of the roadways and public spaces we use every day!
